This year, HSE University held the Mirror Laboratories project contest for the fourth time. A total of 19 applications were submitted to the contest from 16 HSE University research departments partnered with 16 organisations from 14 Russian regions. Following the contest results, 10 research projects received support.

For the first time, the public speaking competition in English and German HSE Talks has been held on the HSE Perm campus. In total, 75 applications from high school and undergraduate students were received for the qualifying round. The best participants presented their speeches on the topic "Technologies in education" at the HSE. The winners shared their impressions and emotions.

Representatives from all HSE campuses, as well as those from Petrozavodsk State University, attended the symposium 'Corpus Linguistics and Academic Discourse Research: The HSE University Experience'. The scientists shared the results of their research in the field of academic discourse study and discussed current problems and opportunities in the use of corpora in foreign language seminars. Researchers from the School of Foreign Languages and the Group for Historical Research, together with students of the History programme at the HSE University campus in Perm, have come back from an expedition to Sakhalin Island, where they studied Soviet industrial culture and the working life of miners. The expedition participants shared their impressions of their ‘immersion into the past’ and the extraordinary landscapes of the island with the HSE News Service.

Students are taking part in the Bobcat-Crow Cultural Exchange Lab (BCCEL), which brings together twenty-six students from the two universities in a weekly cross-cultural exchange on Zoom. During the virtual exchange, Ohio and HSE Perm students share their views on topics such as cultural values, the American and Russian education systems, stereotypes, national symbols and holidays.

As a part of the Minor "Speaking in an Academic Environment", an online discussion between students from the HSE – Perm and students and professors from the University of California (USA) was held. Participants discussed the peculiarities of distance learning in both countries, the role of social networks in the life of modern youth and sports.

‘Imposter Syndrome’: How Perfectionism Leads to Procrastination
HSE-Perm’s research group consisting of Tatyana Permyakova, Full Professor of the School of Foreign Languages, and Marina Sheveleva, Associate Professor of the School of Foreign Languages, together with American researcher Dr. Kenneth Wang, has been investigating the dangers of ‘imposter syndrome’ for university students. Professor Sheveleva talked about the background to this research, its key findings and prospects for the further work on the project.
