This year, HSE University held the Mirror Laboratories project contest for the fourth time. A total of 19 applications were submitted to the contest from 16 HSE University research departments partnered with 16 organisations from 14 Russian regions. Following the contest results, 10 research projects received support.

Representatives from all HSE campuses, as well as those from Petrozavodsk State University, attended the symposium 'Corpus Linguistics and Academic Discourse Research: The HSE University Experience'. The scientists shared the results of their research in the field of academic discourse study and discussed current problems and opportunities in the use of corpora in foreign language seminars. The symposium was organised by the School of Foreign Languages at HSE University-Perm.

The joint project of the Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages Tatyana Permyakova and the Head of the Department of Foreign Languages Marina Sheveleva became the winner of the US-Russia competition for the development of US-Russia University Virtual Partnership.

HSE-Perm’s research group consisting of Tatyana Permyakova, Full Professor of the School of Foreign Languages, and Marina Sheveleva, Associate Professor of the School of Foreign Languages, together with American researcher Dr. Kenneth Wang, has been investigating the dangers of ‘imposter syndrome’ for university students. Professor Sheveleva talked about the background to this research, its key findings and prospects for the further work on the project.

From July 8th to 12th, 2019, three faculty members from HSE-Perm’s School of Foreign Languages, Full Professor Tatyana Permyakova and Associate Professors Irina Morozova and Elena Smolyanina all participated in an international conference of the World Communication Association “Global North and Global south: communicative and cultural prospects” (WCA ABC 2019).

Marina Sheveleva, head of the HSE-Perm’s School of Foreign Languages, spoke at the XVI European Congress of Psychology which took place from July 2 to 5, 2019 in Moscow. The congress brought together more than 3000 psychologists, case workers, educators, public officials and other people interested in psychology, from 82 countries.

Ivan Avramenko, Associate Professor of HSE-Perm’s School of Foreign Languages, participated in the annual international conference of the Memory Studies Association in Madrid.

At the invitation of the School of Foreign Languages, Australian teacher trainer James Thomas visited HSE Perm as part of the ‘Teaching Excellence Initiative’ programme. On September 28, the professor conducted a seminar on ‘Teaching L2 Writing’ for the School’s faculty.

The 5^th Writing Symposium took place on April 5-6 in Göttingen (Germany). It was dedicated to integrating multilingual writing in international universities.

The 1st International Conference on Corpus Analysis in Academic Discourse took place on 22-24 November in Valencia (Spain). HSE-Perm was represented by Elizaveta Smirnova, Associate Professor of the School of Foreign Languages.
